QUALIFICATIONS                            

If you don’t meet  the following qualifications, please call (585) 589-7106 as soon as possible since you may not qualify for jury service at the present time:

      1.   You must be a US citizen and resident of Orleans County.
      2.   Be not less than 18 years of age.
      3.   Not have been convicted of a felony.
      4.   Be able to understand and communicate in the English language.

All statutory exemptions have been repealed by the State Legislature as of January, 1996.

If you have served or been on call as a Federal, Grand or Petit Juror within the past four years or have served in one of the local Village or Town Courts in the past two years by actual appearance, you are not eligible to serve at this time.   


HOW YOU QUALIFY FOR SERVICE
Citizens originally qualify for jury service by completing a Juror Qualification Questionnaire. Random selections for the purpose of questionnaire mailings are made by a computerized system run by the State’s Office of Court Administration in Albany from  the following source lists:

      1.   Board of Elections
      2.   NY State Income Taxpayers
      3.   NY State Department of Motor Vehicles
      4.   NY State Department of Social Services
      5.   NY State Department Of Labor
      6.   Volunteers
