Grand Jury Service
A grand jury is composed of 23 members empanelled by the court and given the function of hearing and examining evidence concerning possible offences, then decide if it rises to a level sufficient to indict (bring a criminal charge against) a person or corporation. The grand jury does not decide the guilt or innocence of the accused; rather, it decides if there is probable cause to bring the accused to trial. Thus, the grand jury's work is a pre-trial function of the court.

If you have been summoned for a grand jury term you are to be available for the term date listed on your summons. If a questionnaire is included with your summons you are required by law to complete and return it within 10 days. Grand jurors serve for an approximate period of 3-4 days per week for a one month term.

If you have not requested to be postponed or excused you are to report on your term date by 9:00AM at the Old Courthouse, 92 Franklin Street. You may also enter from 25 Delaware Ave., corner of Church Street.
