INFORMATION
Telephone
Standby:
All trial jurors are on telephone "standby" and report to the
courthouse when instructed to do so by the recorded message. The
telephone number is (585) 268-5812. Prospective jurors MUST call anytime
after 5:00 p.m. the evening prior to the court date. Please report
promptly at the time indicated
Length
of Service:
The average length
of a jury trial in Allegany County is 3 - 4 days. Your service
will begin on the first day and continue until the trial concludes.
Grand Jury terms run for a 2 month period, with sessions once or twice
each month, usually on a Wednesday, subject to change. After completion
of jury service, your name will be removed from the eligible list of
prospective jurors for a 6‑year period.
Court
Security:
Magnetometers are in
place in the courthouse at the top of the stairs and jurors are not
exempted from the screening process. Weapons or dangerous instruments of
any kind are prohibited in the court building. Your cooperation is
appreciated in this effort to keep our facility safe.
Absence
/ Emergency:
If you must be
absent due to an emergency please call our office at (585) 268-5812 at
9:00 a.m. on the day you are to report. For weather emergencies, please
refer to the Wellsville or Olean radio stations.
Meals:
Vending
machines are located in the building and there are restaurants within a
mile of the Courthouse. You are free to bring your own lunch, however,
no food or drink is allowed in the courtroom.
