Welcome to the New York State 8th Judicial District's informational home page for jurors.  Whether you have received a jury summons and need information regarding your service, or are seeking general information about the mission, functions and operations of the Jury System, the links on this site are designed to answer your concerns.

The constitutions of the United States and the State of New York guarantee defendants in criminal cases and litigants in civil cases the right to a trial by jury.  The New York State Judiciary Law states that all litigants have the right to juries selected from a fair cross section of the community and that all citizens shall have both the opportunity and the obligation to serve when called.  The Commissioner of Jurors in each county is responsible for providing State Supreme, County, Surrogate and various cities, towns and village courts with qualified jurors and for the management of a variety of functions related to discharging this responsibility.

Jury service has come a long way since it was known as "jury duty."  We hope you find the resources and information contained herein useful and that your experience as a juror will be interesting and worthwhile.  Information relative to all counties can be accessed by clicking on the general category or you may select a specific county from the navigation bar above or the map below.
